The theme for World Interiors Day (IFI WID) 2018 is “Design Without Borders”. IFI WID is an annual event hosted by The International Federation of Interior Architects/Designers May every year. In IFI’s words, “Borders may provide structure, but they do not define us. Borders and boundaries play an important role in determining how we understand the world and our place within it. Literal and symbolic borders guide our thoughts and inform our actions.” WHAT “DESIGN WITHOUT BORDERS” MEANS TO ME:  The concept “Design Without Borders” requires applause as the whole idea is to encourage creative professionals transcend barriers that limit…

This is the view of the lush green garden space from our living room. Nothing is more uplifting than gazing at plants symbolizing life. But, I can’t have enough of them and yearn to bring in the greenery indoors. This post is an effort in that direction. I have curated a list of  8 plant containers to place the pots in stairway corners, entryways, corridors etc. The materials vary from seagrass baskets to wooden and ceramic planters.  To be honest, other materials such as metal and aluminium did not initially figure on my list. I was fixated on finding baskets…

I woke up in the wee hours this morning to the distant wailing of a baby. The clock read 4:23 a.m. The subconscious mind told the body to go back to sleep for another hour when the alarm was set to go off. The peace didn’t long last before I woke up again to a clearly uncomfortable baby. I pulled myself out of bed. A few hours later, my new neighbor walked in a sleep-deprived, disheveled avatar. She wondered if we had an air cooler to spare. You see, they moved in a few days back and were unprepared for this heat onslaught. I wasn’t…

My mum was here for a fortnight, and like me, she is fond of all things organizing. For the kitchen, in particular. She helped me in organizing organized the kitchen, got rid of stuff that were old, plastics, and put a ban on purchasing anything new until it was time to discard some of the existing canisters. Aren’t mums are the best? I really love it when she is here as it’s like getting a crash course on life and how to be wiser and balanced. I took her to Home Centre and she shortlisted a few things I must buy…

Prices start from 80 INR per metre and goes up to 300 INR  per metre, let me introduce you to the hidden paradise in Chennai tucked away in a small street called Pantheon road in Egmore, the very famous Cotton Street. From  pure cotton, sateen cotton to denim and tissue fabrics everything is available under one roof. There are a string of around 20 – 25 shops lined next to each other.  As the name suggests cotton fabrics rule the market here. Fabrics like chiffon, tussar, georgette, and denim are available, but not velvet and other heavier fabrics. It is…

IC: ddecor.com This post is a collection of 12 pretty floral patterns in fabrics that feel good to wear and dress your home with this summer.  Mercury is soaring. It’s only 7:00 a.m. As I draw the curtains in my living room, it’s blinding with light from the morning sun streaming through the tall windows. The season of aam panna, chaach, and lemonade is here. As are chikans and something light and loose to wear. Well, how about the home: do you dress your home like you would dress yourself ? As much as I like the layers and cosiness of…

Hennessey Venom, Bugatti Chiron, Koenigsegg Agera, and the Lamborghni Aventador. When the son moved on from watching Pokemon to Top Gear and The Grand Tour on TV, these fancy car names entered my humble lexicon of automobiles. The lure? Well, even for the uninitiated, such speeds of 0 to 60 mph in 2 seconds can be a thrill. Add to it the killer aerodynamic looks, dashing colors, and what you are signing up for is no dearth of adrenaline in the room. And raging hormones! Would it too far-fetched to imagine such aerodynamic designs in a humble ceiling fan? I…

I am always on the look out for bargain finds online. In particular, the ones that look like they cost a limb, but are easy on the pocket. Well, I thank heavens for the day I introduced my mother to the world of online shopping. Every day, she shares a new find with me. Yesterday, she pointed me to 6 glass jars available on Home Centre, and another wholesale crockery store in Chennai where you get 250 ml spice jars for Rs.17. If that’s not a steal, I don’t know what is. This post is inspired by that little tete-a-tete…

The basics of one’s existence is roti, kapda, aur makaan, all of which one needs to earn a living. As we became economically progressive, who would have thought until a decade ago that a free commodity, such as air, will get dearer. The air in Delhi and other metros, or the lack of one, has grabbed grave attention and mind space this past month. The dark overcast looming over our heads has become a topic for whatsapp memes and statistics comparing the air quality to smoking 45 cigarettes a day. Even for a non-smoker, it’s a slow death waiting on the anvil as your lungs…
