Continuing with my series on financial awareness, this post is all you need to be wise about when and how to apply for home loans, take advantage of the movement in interest rates, and keep your spending in check. So, shall we get you one step closer to moving into your dream home? As I sit in my home office and look out the window, I see a couple in their late 30s, prospective home owners touring an adjoining house for sale. When I see this couple, it takes me back to our fortuitous moment one Sunday evening four years ago when…

OK, so I wanted to buy two pieces of 16*16 cushion covers online for my black sofa in the living room. How tough can it be? I went to Amazon as I usually do and looked for cushion covers in light colors with either abstract or floral patterns.  I thought I should be done choosing and ordering in less than 30 minutes. But, I wasted two precious days. Yes, you read it right. There are only two possible explanations: either I’m so jobless, or  I’m so indecisive. But, it was neither. The real reason? I was shopping on Amazon. It…

“Where to shop for gorgeous fabric in Chennai on a shoestring budget” saw a tremendous response from you all. As a follow-up, we are going to Mumbai today for fabric shopping. Changing the slip covers, cushion cover, and runners in the living room is my favorite trick to bring in that freshness without spending a ton of money. And, I’m often looking for either sale of quality fabrics or shops where I can source at relatively cheap prices. I will do a post on my favorite haunts in Bangalore, soon. Today, we have Rushabh to navigate you through the vast…

I started watching Downton Abbey on Netflix this week. Six episodes down, I’m hooked. For someone with a viewing history as varied as Narcos, McMafia, Person of Interest, and The Newsroom, I’ve surprised myself this time for being fascinated with this period drama. The subtle English humour delivered with deadpan expressions caught the fancy of even my 11-year old. He quipped, “How formal are these people making a big deal of dinner every day. And just how many parallel plot lines do they have running at any time?” I say blame it on the magnificent castle where the series is set.…

Continuing with my series on finance and wellness, today I talk about five things that are a must before you move into your new home, for your safety and well-being. Sure, buying a sofa for the new house is more tangible than buying home insurance, or a LED TV more entertaining than pest control! But, it’s the insurance that will ensure you continue to watch those late-night football matches. These may seem impertinent, but they are not to be taken for granted. #1 Insure: better safe than sorry Remember the fire breakout at Deepika Padukone’s building recently, or the ravage caused…

Today, I decided to take a break from pretty pictures and share with you all what I have learnt over the past year from my interactions with several women on how comfortable (or not!) they are discussing about money. Yes, it’s time for some reality check, and I sincerely hope this will motivate you to take a rain check as well. I deliberated for weeks before writing this post and then thought, “what the heck?”. This marries two of my interests/career options so why not talk about both. I started “She Can Invest” last year in a pursuit to educate…

For most of us, finding the right art to deck up the walls can be tricky. Even more so, if you do not frequent exhibitions,  or understand the distinction between originals and prints, or interpret the meaning. Thanks to a dozen websites that sell art now, buying one has come within reach. But, the paradox of choice still exists. Scrolling through literally thousands of images across websites to choose just the right one can itself be a daunting task. Abstract or landscape? People or wildlife? What size? What color? Moe than the budget I think it is the thought of…

The theme for World Interiors Day (IFI WID) 2018 is “Design Without Borders”. IFI WID is an annual event hosted by The International Federation of Interior Architects/Designers May every year. In IFI’s words, “Borders may provide structure, but they do not define us. Borders and boundaries play an important role in determining how we understand the world and our place within it. Literal and symbolic borders guide our thoughts and inform our actions.” WHAT “DESIGN WITHOUT BORDERS” MEANS TO ME:  The concept “Design Without Borders” requires applause as the whole idea is to encourage creative professionals transcend barriers that limit…

This is the view of the lush green garden space from our living room. Nothing is more uplifting than gazing at plants symbolizing life. But, I can’t have enough of them and yearn to bring in the greenery indoors. This post is an effort in that direction. I have curated a list of  8 plant containers to place the pots in stairway corners, entryways, corridors etc. The materials vary from seagrass baskets to wooden and ceramic planters.  To be honest, other materials such as metal and aluminium did not initially figure on my list. I was fixated on finding baskets…

I woke up in the wee hours this morning to the distant wailing of a baby. The clock read 4:23 a.m. The subconscious mind told the body to go back to sleep for another hour when the alarm was set to go off. The peace didn’t long last before I woke up again to a clearly uncomfortable baby. I pulled myself out of bed. A few hours later, my new neighbor walked in a sleep-deprived, disheveled avatar. She wondered if we had an air cooler to spare. You see, they moved in a few days back and were unprepared for this heat onslaught. I wasn’t…
