Yesterday, I pinned a fun cleaning calendar on the dyh Facebook page. This got me thinking on all the cleaning supplies one needs at home. From a humble bleaching powder, acid and Harpic a decade ago, the cleaning supplies section in any store has grown multifold. You have tile cleaner, glass cleaner, stainless steel cleaner, this mop, that brush, microfibre cloth, kitchen sink cloth ..phew! The results of one from the other is not astonishingly different.
I hate to admit I have a whole basket of cleaning supplies ranging from Cif to Mr.Muscle bathroom cleaner and upholstery cleaner. And, that’s just the cleaners. We haven’t even started on the tools from Gala triangular brush to sponge to window wipes. Yes, it was bordering on obsession so I have consciously limited what I buy, and instead try and make my cleaners.
But, if you are not game for recycling yet and would rather go the off-the-shelf product way, then I have put together few picks for this week.
1. Astonish Stainless Steel Cleaner for Rs. 395 from houseproud (just noted 10% off on Pepperfry)
2. Astonish Oven Cleaner for Rs. 356 from Pepperfry
3. Life is clean tile cleaner for Rs.110 from snapdeal
4. Grout removal tool for Rs.1,548 from Zansaar
5. Grill cleaning brush for Rs.1195 from Zansaar
Green cleaning recipes from The Daily Green
Toothpaste: If you can’t immerse your items or are otherwise inclined to polish by hand, rub tarnished silver with toothpaste and a soft cloth. Rinse with warm water and dry. Instead of toothpaste you can substitute a concoction made of 3 parts baking soda to 1 part water.
Copper
Ketchup: To keep your copper pots, pans and accents looking bright and shiny, try rubbing with ketchup.
I’ve started using vinegar, salt and baking soda for my taps and cleaning the tiles to remove scaling with much success. It’s been over two months since I bought Colin since I make my own glass cleaner now; and the orange peels (my son’s snack is orange everyday) don’t go waste.
Do you have any ideas for DIY cleaners – a secret recipe perhaps that you’d like to share :) ?
Have a wonderful weekend.
