Yesterday, I pinned a fun cleaning calendar on the dyh Facebook page. This got me thinking on all the cleaning supplies one needs at home. From a humble bleaching powder, acid and Harpic a decade ago, the cleaning supplies section in any store has grown multifold. You have tile cleaner, glass cleaner, stainless steel cleaner, this mop, that brush, microfibre cloth, kitchen sink cloth ..phew! The results of one from the other is not astonishingly different. I hate to admit I have a whole basket of cleaning supplies ranging from Cif to Mr.Muscle bathroom cleaner and upholstery cleaner. And, that’s just the cleaners. We haven’t even started on the tools from Gala triangular brush to sponge to window wipes. Yes, it was bordering on obsession so I have consciously limited what I buy, and instead try and make my cleaners. But, if you are not game for recycling yet and would…

Happy Friday folks! I really TGIF today! We are a li’l late for the Friday Shopping edition but I promise you it’ll be fun. Do you think it’s raining sales everywhere – in shops, online stores? I know this Sale season every year is for real as people abstain from buying anything new/expensive.  Just a fortnight ago, I bought something from the new arrivals section from a store and it was priced the same on Jabong. Now, it’s slashed by over 20%. The point is the Sale is for real, and it’s not one of those times when the prices are marked up and then offered at a discount. Today, I have some new stores to share with you. But before that a disclaimer: I have not shopped at all of these stores personally so I can’t vouch for the quality, service, or timeliness. I merely pick them from a…

Good Morning! How are you all doing? I’m excited because the summer vacation starts officially from tomorrow, which, in turn, means a break from the morning rush and sticking to the clock. This week, I have put together an exciting range of products that we use in our everyday life from planters to masalas and makeup stuff;  the common string tying them together is that they are eco-friendly/organic. 1. Jute planter bag for Rs.100 from Green Home 2. HDPE Planter bag for Rs.120 from Green Home 3. Recycled book in various colors for Rs.125 from Eco Corner 4. Natural tea masala for Rs.100 from Eco Corner 5. Organic kajal for Rs. 295 from Green n Good Disclaimer: I have not shopped at any of these sites, so cannot vouch for the product quality, service and delivery. Did you ever imagine that a tire can be recycled into a fruit basket, or that plastic bags can be re-purposed into eye-catching cosmetic bags? I stumbled upon an organization called Aid to Artisans that provides economic opportunities for artisan groups around the world. They promote economically deprived artisans with a gift for handmade traditions by connecting them to new markets.  Or, should I say hungry markets? Bangalore is one such hungry market that has an undying appetite for handlooms and handicrafts going by the sheer number of exhibitions organized around the city every weekend. So, I thought why not feature Aid to Artisans as the theme for this Friday Shopping post instead of curating from my usual haunts. And, I bet you’d agree with me this was a great idea once you look at the products. Sadly, there is no way shop online at the moment (web store doesn’t respond).…

What would you need to set up a balcony garden from scratch? That’s the thought that crossed my mind as I was looking for some affordable railing planters before deciding on making my own. Iron brackets are so hard to come by, and even if they are available online, they are usually priced ridiculously high. Working on this theme, this week’s post centers around setting up your balcony garden replete with essentials such as planter, potting medium, seedling tray and of course, seeds. The only outlier is the deck chair in terms of price. I’m fond of easy chair, but you could replace it with a cheaper alternative like a couple of cane modas  with comfy cushions for seating. 1. Colorful hanging terracotta pots for Rs.650 2. Walnut finish deck chair and foot stool from Urban Ladder for Rs.5499 3. Wheelbarrow planter for Rs.295 from Zansaar 4. Seedling tray from…

Hello everyone! How are you all doing? Looking forward to the weekend? The theme of this week’s shopping post is lights. No, it’s not Diwali yet but I’m feeling festive. I chanced upon India Circus’s fascinating collection of lamps and one thing led to another, and before I knew, there was this whole collection of lamps I fell in love with.  And, what better way of spreading the joy of discovering something than sharing with you all. So, here it is — 1. Handpainted cylindrical lamp for Rs. 1799 2. Wall scone with 4 tea lights for Rs.1225 3. Paisley cushion cover for Rs.849 from India Circus 4. Ikat wooden table lamp for Rs. 1,999 from India Circus  5. Colorful lamp from Sunshine Boulevard (don’t know the price) Image courtesy: Respective sites linked to in the list

It’ 11:07 p.m. and I’ve just begun to compose the post;  not used to staying up late (my signal usually starts going down from 9:00 p.m.) But, it’s a Friday and I had to get the Friday Shopping picks post up which I thought would be a breeze considering I’ve been on it since early evening. Yep..trying to learn some Photoshopping tricks consumed a better part of the three hours I’ve worked on this post. Phew…sometimes the output is so straightforward that the no. of hours don’t justify the effort. I’m happy doing it ; guess that’s what matters in the end, doesn’t it? The theme – Fabrics – was clear in my head ever since I saw the latest Good Home issue. It’s a well crafted, researched and thoughtfully put up issue.  I’d been looking around for some bright fabrics to upholster my big cushion so the issue came…

I’m smelling the fragrance of Rajnigandha  and the sweetness of Lindt (in my head and note to husband: please get me a bunch this weekend). My friends fondly called him the florist for the amount of business he gave to the neighborhood flower lady. I need a vase first before the flowers freshen up my home which led me to this week’s picks. 1. Embossed jug from Zansaar for Rs.695 2. Luminarc jug from Zansaar for Rs.325 3. Swarovski candle holder from junglee for Rs.900 4. Lampshade candle for Rs.315 from Lime Road – isn’t it cute? 5. 15 kgs of love cushion cover for Rs.249 from Lime Road Tell me what’s n your mind, and is there any retail site you are particularly hooked on to? Have a wonderful weekend and I’ll see you Monday with images of a thoughtfully remodeled kitchen. Image courtesy: Linked to respective sites
