A Contemporary Home for a Well-traveled Couple

A globe-trotting, young business couple assigned the task of designing a functional, contemporary home to Inceppt Design Studio. Instead of restricting themselves to a single theme, the well-traveled couple wanted the home to be a blend of several styles with each room reflecting the aesthetic preferences of its occupant, and reminiscent of their travels.

About the project:

Who lives here:

Location: Parkland , Vapi

Budget: 1.35 crores.

The couple travel extensively for work around the globe and wanted a simple, modern, and functional home. The family was also clear that they wanted a space where the century old paintings and art pieces collected by the generations of the clients family could be displayed inconspicuously.

The architect says,

Space, environment, textures, and light are the four key concepts to approach the House P+S. We designed to maximize the already well-proportioned formal spaces, including a generous entrance gallery, a formal living room and dining room; while converting the dark and crowded storage and service areas into functional contemporary living elements.

Living + Dining + Kitchen

The house is spread over three floors. The social area comprising the living, dining and, the kitchen flow seamlessly into one another.

The material of the project is simple defining the three main elements that make it up: the flooring changing as per the functionality of the space, wood defining the objects, and a 20 -feet-long wardrobe to meet the storage needs.

One of the highlights of the space is the cleverly designed staircase where “under the steps” space has been elongated with the step risers. It is used to display artifacts.

The other eye-catching feature when one enters the house is the elevation behind the TV space.

Wood and stone are the highlights of this luxurious dining space.
Very few materials can rival the elegance of wood and natural stone as this luxurious dining space shows.

Bedrooms

The open-concept master bedroom and bathroom make up a single space arranged by a piece that serves as a headboard and washbasin cabinet. The master walk in dressing is eye striking.

The parents’ bedroom is inspired by the colonial style featuring molding & hand-carved furniture.

The kids bedroom is playful with a mix of aesthetics and playfulness. It comprises a study corner, stair-up bed & central free space with the purpose of a play area.

All the spaces are created differently & are visually elegant.

In conclusion, the architect says,

a simple brief is the most challenging and interesting one, as residence is a space that cohesively needs to cater to specific requirements of each users, which most of the times are contradictory.
