Organizing: What works best for you in the kitchen?

Vandana shares her kitchen organizing tips today. There are no rules when it comes to the kitchen….whatever works to help you be more efficient rules.

She says, “I’ve lined the drawer with a silver gift wrapper to give a  shiny finish and I’ve categorized and labelled items for easy access. Earlier, I stacked up items and it was quite difficult to get to the items at the bottom. Sometimes, the smaller items used to get lost in the entire pile, making me buy again, only to make way for duplicates.”

On the ever growing grocery list, she adds, “also, I have a pencil right on top of my fridge to enter items in the shopping list as and when stock gets over. This way, I don’t have to remember a long list of items before I go for shopping.”

Thanks, Vandana for sharing these pictures.

  1. Nice post. Kitchen organising tips are always welcome! We have a rented space as of now. I use big plastic boxes for storing groceries. But when we move to our apartment, I am thinking of using Ikea style cane baskets. My problem is that I cannot seem to find someone who can make ’em for me….the ones available at stores like Shoppers Stop/ Lifestyle are way expensive. Any leads in Delhi NCR?

I have few storage boxes to store unopened grocerries, snacks, biscuits etc., I follow color code for the boxes. I.e. Pink color for snacks, biscuits and blue ones for spices and rest of them for pulses, grains, atta etc., I too like Vandana said write down the items immediately they get over on a post it note so that I don’t forget to buy them when I vsist the supermarket..
