Good morning! Hope you all had a wonderful weekend. When it comes to dressing up one’s balcony and learning a thing or two about container gardening, I look no further than the Nordic region. The design sensibilities, the color scheme (mostly whites offset with colorful furnishings), simple furniture, tall ceilings, and natural stained wood goes with what I believe in : keep it simple.

This post is about decking up one’s balcony along with the beautiful plants you may have. Most of the apartments featured here are much smaller than a typical 2 or 3 BHK in India. So, if they can look this beautiful, I don’t see any reason why we can’t do the same. Of course, the views from the Nordic apartments overlooking some quirky cafes, a clear night sky above, red rooftop houses, clean streets, lush green views, ancient architecture – it’s all a heady combination that we can’t bring home. But, why not try and make the most of what we have.

It need not cost a fortune to get this look. A simple rug from Cottage Industries or FabIndia, garden/outdoor chairs from Fab Furnish/Urban Ladder/Home Town, a lantern and colorful cushions are all you need to get this look.  Many apartments have only one balcony that are rectangle in shape and double up for other things like drying clothes. So fitting in plants, clothes and furniture may be challenging. What you could do is move plants to rail planters and free up the ground space.

It need not be as perfect as the first image. A unkempt place looks just as pretty with the same components mixed and matched in bold colors to your taste.

Have you been to the Chitrakala Parishath in Bangalore? The place hosts several arts and handicrafts exhibitions round the year and a visit to the center has been on the cards for months now. And, I’m glad it’s going to happen this weekend. Thanks to an exhibition by Maati Crafts from June 30 – July 2nd.

Ever since I saw the beautiful applique curtain on  Once upon a team time, I’ve been asking my husband every time he visits Mumbai if he would be around that area. Just like any Indian hand crafted piece, you’ll fall in love with the work of their artisans once you see their FB page. The vibrant colors and miniature figures are mesmerizing. My favorite is the miniature pottery collection and the curtain.

Who says your interior doors have to be neutral in color? Tired of the white/ivory color doors? Bright colors need not be restricted to walls, curtains or furniture. Go bold with these three ideas and style your door differently…

Bright paint can make so much of a difference…

“dress your home” turns exactly a month young tomorrow.  So it was a pleasant surprise for it to be featured among the best 9 Indian interior design blogs. All you folks at blog adda, thanks for the recognition! Among other news, it’s been a harrowing time here as this site went offline for over 15 hours last evening. Many of you would have been greeted by the much dreaded “404 Page not found error”. There was a hardware crash and the service providers tried their best to restore as much data as they could. I almost lost many of  my posts and your valuable comments; I spent the whole morning trying to recover as much as I could. Later in the afternoon, much to my delight, the hosting providers were able to restore the data fully. So it was 4 hours of lost effort but all’s well that ends well.…
